Design is always linked with any thing you’re preparing. Being as a designer/design learner you are required to getting in the end user’s shoes. Design thinking is a practise to succour designers for ideate, proof of concept and prototype the new products with best services.
The RIMT-DESINNO CoE has been established to focus on essence of design thinking through stakeholder empathy, agile, research and compassion. The essential approaches for defining the real customer problems and testing potential new solutions are included to deliver while facilitating the knowledge about complete new design thinking course objectives.
With the combination of engineering, science & technology and managerial skills, the design education focuses on human requirement, with quick creations to come up with unique ways to present their desires or needs, and idea testing through proof of concepts to make prototypes with novel features to produce required and remarkable results.
Education for futuristic design thinking is an approach to proceed ahead of designing for current age problems through the persona, empathy and experimentation, which are accomplished by using different tools, practices, procedures and methods using forecasting, and strategic foresight.
At ‘RIMT DESINNO – Centre of Excellence’ the integrated product design aspirants will have a design thinking approach for future products, activities geared up specifically for product design with multi-disciplinary approaches and analytics, including:

Industrial Partner: M/s Axiom India Pvt. Ltd., Delhi
The global automotive industry is undergoing a paradigm shift at present in trying to switch to alternative/less energy-intensive options. India, too, is investing in this electric mobility shift. The burden of oil imports, rising pollution, as well as international commitments to combat global climate change are among key factors motivating India’s recent policies to speed up the transition to e-mobility.
The purpose of this project is to design a double seat E3W (electric 3-wheeler) for urban cities with a top speed of 25km/h (no driving license or paper required) and a range of 60-70 kms, which can be a great alternative of bike (with cover over head and dedicated luggage space) for travelling within the city and for last mile connectivity.
The target market for our vehicle is especially office-going women, college students, housewives and elderly people. The final outcome is an electric vehicle with a functional design.
Using the new centre of excellence a prototype of the vehicle has been designed, as it is shown in the following pictures, using the software and hardware tools available in the new lab in the RIMT facilities.

Industrial Partner: M/s Symbionic Tech Pvt. Ltd.,Chennai
The project deals with the development of a new prosthetic arm and it is facilitated by the company Symbionic Tech, which is based in Chennai. The aim is to understand and design in an anthropocentric manner, an affordable new prosthetic arm, keeping in mind terms of ergonomics, sustainability, affordability, material and manufacturing.
The product aims at providing the best functionality and degree of freedom for a bionic arm at the most economical scale possible. In the future, the company aims to design various customizable covers as per the wishes of the customer so they can choose their own arm.
Using the new centre in the RIMT facilities, an Engineering Prototype has been designed and developed, as it is shown in the pictures below. The new product has been tested and it is delivered to the company for further development.
